After careful consideration and evaluation by Duke Learning Innovation (DLI) and the Office of Information Technology (OIT), Duke University and Duke Kunshan University are moving from our current learning management system (LMS), Sakai, to the Canvas platform.
No changes are needed for the 2022 – 2023 academic year. We plan to conduct a phased transition from Sakai to Canvas during the 2023 – 2024 academic year, with all courses migrated to Canvas by Fall 2024.
We are currently developing our plan for migration, however, please be assured that we will devote a significant level of project support personnel and resources to providing training and converting course sites, with and for users, in order to minimize the impact on instructors and to ensure the successful adoption of Canvas at Duke.
If you are scheduled to teach in Fall 2023 and are interested in being an early adopter of Canvas, please fill out this short interest form. You will need to be available at some point during Summer 2023 for training and transition support in order to use Canvas in Fall 2023.
We are optimistic about the opportunities this transition represents for the Duke community, and are eager to see how Canvas will transform the teaching experience at Duke.
